5, 2003 -- Thirteen Days Old First time prying with his beak! Climbed out of nest box.
Baby Shadow finally pried with his beak today! We were sooo proud of our little
genius. The first time he pried, he acted very surprised at himself. As the day
progressed, he pried in between his nest paper, underneath his stuffed teddy bear
toy, and in between our fingers.
He is now a beautiful
chocolate-brown color and is beginning to get more white on his throat. Only
the very center of his belly is still featherless. Lots of wing flapping went
on in his nest today, and by noon he had discovered that he could actually climb
out of his nest and onto his box! Once he was out, he would stand and
look at everything around him and sometimes would twitter. He is still too unsteady
to do much walking, but he is trying.
Naptime
on my most favorite toy -- my stuffed teddy bear. I nap on it each day.
Playing
in my "nest". Because I am quickly becoming more active, my nest and
box have been placed inside a medium sized cage for protection. But I hardly
ever stay in it!
