3, 2003 -- Eleven Days Old
First time preening! Looked out of his nest for the first time.
Shadow's wing feathers are very pretty and are mostly all unfurled. He had a
"first" today . . . he actually preened! It was adorable to see our
teeny baby bird doing something that our adult birds commonly do. He also stretched
and several times flapped his little wings so fast that he fell over in his
nest and looked very surprised afterwards. He can scratch his neck although
he wobbles when doing so. This evening he was quite funny as he climbed to the
top of his nest and looked over the edge for the first time. He can stand up
very tall for a few seconds at the time. We have noticed him watching for us
to come into the room and frequently looking all around him as if he is trying
to take in everything at once.
Dad says
that now I look much less like a little dinosaur and more like a little bird.
