31, 2003 -- Eight Days Old
Baby Shadow still mostly eats and naps, but more often he is finding his environment
interesting as well. He has many feathers unfurled on his upper wings now. His
growing tail is unfurled at the ends, and his beak is longer. Dark brown feathers
have appeared in a long row down his spine, on his shoulders, and on his flanks
and neck. He is getting stronger and is eating larger portions at each feeding,
but he still
does not have good control of his feet and legs yet.
Shadow spends less
than half his daytime hours in his "nest," as someone is usually holding
him or cuddling him even during naps. Today he went to Grandma's house and watched
tv with her while sitting cupped in her hands.
