30, 2003 -- One Week Old
Shadow has grown stronger and can raise up a little when gaping, although he is
unsteady. By this evening, he has wing feathers beginning to unfurl from the feather
sheaths that have seemingly grown longer during the day. His tail is longer too,
and he has some very dark feathers on both shoulders and behind his head. His
head and the center of his back are a more uniform gray. His personality is beginning
to show, and he now gapes immediately when he hears my voice. He watches us more
often when we are near him.
He yells loudly
in between bites of food and still never seems to know when he is full. He is
not sure exactly what his legs and feet are for yet, and he can get in the strangest
positions when wiggling around in his 'nest.' He was snuggled by various family
members during most of his naps today.
My upper
wings, head and upper back are filling in with growing feathers and fuzz. Also,
my wings and tail have grown longer.
