June
19, 2003 -- 27 Days Old Shadow attacks our hands madly in spurts and twitters loudly to music.
Shadow has so much energy that he hardly knows what to do! He unexpectedly attacks
hands or zooms around the rooms in a frenzy. Although he is a handful right now,
we realize this is a sign that he is a healthy, normal juvenile starling. One
adorable trait he has is that when anything frightens him, he will hurry to me
and hide under my chin.
While we were away
on our recent trip, Shadow began twittering and singing loudly for Jeremy whenever
he played a particular song by U2. Today I played that song for him on my computer
speakers, and as we watched him, he right away began twittering and warbling
along with it. I played the song three times, and he sang to it every time!
We got such a kick out of this behavior, and of course, I am proud of his taste
in music.
Shadow has lost
all of the baby fuzz that was atop his head; only one tiny spot remains. He
now looks much more grown-up even though he is still in his baby colors and
is not very large.
Tonight
I attacked dad's hand over and over, flying at his fingers while pecking them
and fussing, then flying away only to come back and repeat my attack again.
Mom took this photo of me in mid-attack -- I was flapping my wings and getting
ready to lunge and peck.
A nice view
of my gorgeous feathered coat. I finally lost most of the two tufts of baby fuzz
on top of my head. I am not yet as large as an adult starling, but I will be full
size in a short time.
