18, 2003 -- 26 Days Old A mischievous young starling.
Shadow is full of mischief these days. He is constantly on the look-out for new
things to get into or to destroy. Some of his favorite pastimes at this age include
tugging at shoe laces, prying into very nook and cranny he finds, poking holes
in paper towel, shaking strips of newspaper furiously, trying to remove all of
his mom's jewelry, and dancing wildly in his dad's hair. He loves flying and will
circle the rooms many times in between his play sessions. Of course, he still
loves to cuddle for naps when he is exhausted from playing.
His feathers are
beautiful at this stage of his babyhood, all chocolate-brown and sleek. The
top of his head is more of a slate gray than the rest of his body, and he has
some light streaks going up and down on his breast. His beak is growing longer,
and he is getting taller. Our baby is growing up!
My folks
returned home from their trip tonight! I was sooo happy to see them that I could
not be still when they let me out. In this photo I am carrying a piece of paper
towel that I stole from dad. Playing with paper is loads of fun.
I did such
a good job of ripping my paper! I have so many holes in it that I can even stick
my head in some of them. Mom thinks I am mighty messy when ripping paper, but
she doesn't mind since I'm so cute.
