14, 2003 -- 22 Days Old A very crazy baby starling!
Shadow is bursting with energy! Many times each day he will have "crazy baby
starling fits" where he acts very funny -- he dances, squeals, bites, pecks,
lunges, and flies back and forth at objects. His biting and pecking does not hurt,
and we largely ignore it and try not to laugh at his antics, for we realize that
his moodiness will pass as he matures.
Shadow has grown
taller, and his legs appear longer. His wing feathers and tail have also grown
in length. The feathers on his upper back are fuller and softer, and his beak
has lengthened as well. We think this is one of the prettiest stages of starling
babyhood.
My folks
are leaving on a trip tomorrow. Jeremy will be staying home and will handfeed
me and spoil me. But I really want to go with mom, dad, and Josh! I'm
thinking about sneaking into this bag and hiding so they won't find me until
they get to the hotel.
Here I am
fighting with Jeremy's shoestrings. I sometimes dance on his shoe while squealing,
and then I lunge, pecking at the shoestrings wildly before prying and tugging
at them. I am in my "crazy baby starling" phase, and everyone thinks
I am very cute.
